Younger Elliott Earns First Pro Late Win, Brannon Takes Watermelon 100
The Georgia Asphalt Series rolled into Lanier National (GA) Speedway Saturday for its second attempt at running the first of six Super Six 100 Series races. The first was postponed by rain, but the green flag few under hot, dry skies this time around.
It was 13 year old Chase Elliott who wound the night up in victory lane. It was the first Late Model win for the young Dawsonville, GA driver, who is the son of NASCAR miles-per-hour speed record holder Bill Elliott.
Teammate Casey Roderick came home second to Elliott, with Paul Kelley 3rd. Greg Simpson was 4th, and Jeremy Rice rounded out the top 5.
Drew Brannon was the victor a little further south at Watermelon Capitol (GA) Speedway. He took the big trophy in the Watermelon 100 for the Southern Pro Late Model Series. David Odell came home 2nd, followed by Russell Fleeman. Scotty Ellis and Dustin Dunn earned 4th and 5th, respectively.
James Buescher won the Drive Smart Buckle Up Kentucky 150 at Kentucky Speedway Saturday. He was followed across the stripe by Justin Lofton in 2nd and Jesse Smith in 3rd. Brian Ickler and Frank Kimmell took the final top 5 slots, respectively.
Deep South area racer Stephan McCurley earned himself a top 20 finish, finishing in the 20th spot.
Fans were treated to “Meet the Drivers” night at Five Flags (FL) Speedway Friday night.
Brandon Odom beat out Johanna Long for the Pro Late Model win. Ronnie Smith was 3rd. Wayne Niedecken, Jr. finished 4th, with Keith Thorpe bringing home a top five finish.
Michael Kitchen, Michael Nelson, and William Goulet comprised the top 3 in Bomber racing. Bo Hancock was 4th. Rick Grimes was 5th.
Randy Thompson racked up a win in the Sportsmen division event. Chris Palmer and Chad Robinson finished 2nd and 3rd. Shanna Ard and William Kitchen completed the top five.
Chris Cotto scored the win in the Super Stock class, followed by Randy Thompson, Mike Moore, John Shuffler, and Tommy Rollins, respectively.
A “Meet the Drivers” pre-race autograph session was held at Mobile (AL) International Speedway as well on Saturday night.
Ryan Paul grabbed the win in the Pro Late Model event, with Donald Crocker following in 2nd. Johanna Long earned her second top three of the weekend, finishing 3rd. Wyatt Webb and Dewey Niedecken rounded out the first five positions.
Shannon Jackson was the Super Stock victor, followed by Chris Cotto and Christopher Loepke in 2nd and 3rd. Bobby Baria finished 4th, with James DeVitt 5th.
Jonathon Day, Jay Day, and Rusty Powell, Jr. took the top three spots in Bomber racing, with Brandon Tipton and Logan Baria 4th and 5th.
The Sportsmen division took to the track as well. Jonathon Langham found victory, with Richard Johnson 2nd and Justin Shoemaker 3rd. Michael Ledlow came home 4th. Joe Thornton was 5th.
Heath Mills is the newest Modified division track record holder at South Alabama Speedway. Mills took the win in his respective division Saturday night. Kevin Peel took 2nd, and Jamie Ater finished 3rd. Kip Whitehead earned 4th, with Phillip Merryman 5th.
Ater went on to take the win in the Vintage event, and he was followed under the flag stand by Jesse Smith in 2nd and Steve Stewart in 3rd. Kip Whitehead finished 4th in this race as well, with Randy Henderson 5th.
Charles Cotton took his 2nd win in a row in Street Stock action. Three time 2009 winner Billy Ammons completed his night in the 2nd spot, with Jamie Ater 3rd. Jeff Rudd and Johnny Otto rounded out the top 5.
LaDunn Stokes earned his first Road Runner win of the year. Jason Singletary and Billy Maxie followed Stokes, with John Singletary and Doug Powell 4th and 5th.
Aaron Nelson continued his Coyote dominance with a win Saturday. Lee Rogers, Max Nelson, Travis Slawson, and Joseph Chandler made up the 2nd through 5th finishing positions.
Greg Adams led Waylon Spivey and Jack Whittle to the finish in the CupLite race. Chase Berry and Zac Wallace finished 4th and 5th, respectively.
Eddie Hinson took another Mini-Sportsman Series win, and Jeremy Peacock came home second. Mike Wolfe took home the 3rd place trophy. Jeremy Geddings earned 4th place honors, with Dylan Wolfe 5th.
The Huntsville Quarter Midget Association teams competed Saturday, with Mason Gonzales taking the Junior Novice win over Jack Ondocsin and Chandler Bryant.
Andrew Whitaker was the Senior Novice winner, followed by Jordan Pugh and James Michael Hartley. Parker Pugh rounded out the field.
Jaxon bishop took the Junior Honda win. Carson Dean, Hannah McComiskey, Travis Smith, and Rayce Geary rounded out the field.
Tyler Ryan led Drew Alldredge across the line in the Senior Honda division, followed by Trevor Sanders in 3rd, Rylee Loveday in 4th, and Brendan Keller in 5th.
Zack Caldwell finished atop the Heavy Honda leader board, with Bailey Jones and Brandon Stanfield 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Kate McComiskey and Abbi Ondocsin rounded out the top 5.
Will Brown was the winner in the Light 160 class. He was followed by Tyler Ryan and Rylee Loveday, with Brendan Keller and Stevie Brannon 4th and 5th.
Zack Caldwell earned another win, but this time in the Heavy 160 division. Ryan Franklin and Bailey Jones made up the respective top three, with Trey Richardson and Aubrey Toney completing the top 5.
Trey Richardson was the sole competitor for the Junior Half class, and earned the win credit.
Will Brown came home the fastest in the World Formula portion of the events, with Trey Richardson 2nd and Bailey Jones 3rd. Skyler Charles and Ryan Franklin rounded out the field in 4th and 5th.
Cody Duke was uncontested in the Junior Stock and Modified Light classes, earning him the victories in those divisions.
