Bubba Pollard has taken 5 out of 5 Viper Series wins this season

KINSTON, AL -- Senoia, Georgia’s Bubba Pollard continued his domination of South Alabama Speedway’s Pro Late Model Viper Series Saturday night, winning the Timber 100. It was Pollard’s fifth win in five starts in the series this year.

Pollard set fast time in qualifying, turning a lap of 15.366 seconds. He then drew a one for inversion, keeping the pole position with Clay Alexander on the outside. When the green dropped, Pollard and Alexander jumped out in front of the field by four car lengths. Local favorite Sam Smith was leading the pack behind them. Taylor Satterfield stared sixth, but moved past Smith into third on lap 13.

Satterfield’s South Alabama bad luck bit him again during the races first caution period on lap 21. During the first caution period, Scotty Anderson was trying to get to pit road and turned left as Satterfield was coming to his inside. Anderson caught Satterfield on the right front, ending the Georgian’s night.

Back under green, Pollard and Alexander resumed their battle. The battle ended when Alexander spun on lap 40. However, when racing resumed, Pollard had had another challenger, Smith, on his bumper. And, he was having mechanical problems with his car. On lap 49, Smith worked his way past Pollard. Justin South, making his first start at SAS, followed Smith past Pollard into second. At the halfway point, Smith led South, Pollard, Brandon Odom, and Tony Clark.

Pollard pitted when the caution flew on lap 59 and his problems were corrected. But now he faced another problem, having to work his way back to the front. That task proved to be relatively easy. Going inside and outside of traffic, Pollard moved back into third by lap 73. Three laps later, he moved past South for second.

On lap 83, Pollard moved to the inside of Smith to regain the lead. South’s night came to an end on lap 89 when track officials decided an oil leak was too much for him to continue. South’s car had been smoking for much of the race, but had finally gotten bad enough for officials to pull him down to check. South’s impressive run ended when officials confirmed the leak was bad enough to affect the track’s surface.

Pollard had to survive several restarts in the final ten laps before securing the victory. Smith was able to stay with Pollard on the restarts, but Pollard was able to pull away once the field got sorted out. Pollard led Smith by 1.613 seconds as the checkered flag flew. Odom came home third. Jeff Morgan had an impressive fourth place finish. Dennis Reno Jr. was fifth.

In the 35-lap Modified Feature, Ricky Brooks took the lead on lap eight and went on to win. Ryan Redmon grabbed the lead from the outside pole, out gunning Brooks to turn one. It took Brooks eight laps to work his way past Redmon. Heath Mills followed one lap later and set his target on the leader. Mills was able to stay with Brooks until falling off the pace on lap 18. With Mills out of his mirror, Brooks cruised the rest of the way. Redmon ran second the rest of the way. Jamie Ater battled with mechanical problems in practice and qualifying, but solved his problems before race time. Ater came from the tenth starting spot to finish third. Lance Blacker finished fourth with Kip Whitehead fifth.

Jason Singletary made easy work of the Roadrunner Feature. Singletary started fifth, but took the lead on lap five and cruised the rest of the way. Billy Maxie blew his engine in Thursday night practice, but borrowed Doug Powell’s car and took it to a second place finish. Chris Yeakos picked up another podium finish, coming home in third. Mike Wolfe was fourth, followed by Dale McLendon.

Lee Rogers picked up the win in the Coyote Feature. Michael Smith got a good jump on the start and went from sixth to first on the first lap. Smith led the next lap before Max Nelson took control. Meanwhile, Rogers was steadily making his way through the field, moving into second on lap six. On lap nine, he moved past Nelson to take the lead. With the race staying green, Rogers continued to build his lead as the race went on. Travis Slawson moved into second on lap 15, but couldn’t overcome Rogers’ lead. Nelson finished third, followed by Smith and Rusty Locklar.

Eddy Hinson took the lead on lap eight and went on to win the Mini-Sportsman Feature. Dylan Wolfe Led the first seven laps before Hinson took over. Jeremy Peacock came from the ninth starting spot to finish second with Wolfe falling to third. Joshua Sibley and Mike Wolfe were fourth and fifth.

Action continues next Saturday with heat and feature in seven local classes. For more information, contact the track at (334) 565-3539, or visit the track’s web site at www.southalabamaspeedway.com.
